A joint statement was issued by the tripartite mechanism (the African Union, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development and the United Nations) and the quartet (Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the United States of America), which reads as follows:
The members of the Tripartite Mechanism (the African Union, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development and the United Nations) and the Quad (Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the United States of America) welcome the announcement made by the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces, to extend the current ceasefire for an additional 72 hours, and call for fully implemented.
We also welcome their willingness to engage in dialogue in order to achieve a permanent cessation of hostilities and to ensure unhindered humanitarian access. This initial diplomatic phase will contribute to a permanent cessation of hostilities and humanitarian arrangements that will contribute to the development of a de-escalation plan as outlined in the African Union statement of April 20, endorsed by the League of Arab States, the European Union, the Troika and other partners.
