FBI Director Christopher Wray has told Congress that he needs more financial support, because the number of Chinese hackers now greatly outnumbers the number of electronic intelligence personnel in the United States.
Testifying before the House Appropriations Subcommittee during a budget hearing, Wray said: “To put it plainly, if every single FBI cyber agent and intelligence analyst focused exclusively on Chinese threats, the Chinese hackers would still outpace the FBI personnel. Ray added that China has “a larger hacking program than any other country, and has stolen more of our personal and corporate US data than any other country, big or small, combined.”
He added, “Cyber threats today have become more prevalent, infect a variety of victims, and have greater potential for damage than before, and you can take China as an example. An essential part of the Chinese government’s multi-track strategy to overtake us as a global Internet superpower is based on data theft and cybersecurity threats.
However, (Ray) said that “countries, such as: Russia, Iran, and North Korea also represent significant cybersecurity concerns, in addition to non-state criminal actors.
