The Iranian parliament voted today (Sunday) to dismiss the Minister of Industry, Trade and Mining, Reza Fatemi Amin, after parliamentarians accused him of failing to control the skyrocketing car prices and the increase in the cost of industrial production, harshly criticizing his mismanagement.
“162 of the 272 parliamentarians who attended the session voted in favor of dismissing the minister,” Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said on state television.
Fatimi becomes the first member of President Ibrahim Raisi’s government to be removed from office since Raisi’s election in 2020.
On the other hand, unidentified gunmen killed an Iranian police officer in Sistan and Baluchistan province, southeastern Iran.
The Iranian News Agency (IRNA) quoted the governor of Saravan, Saeed Tajlili, as saying that unidentified persons shot dead the commander of the internal security forces in the border city of Saravan, Ali Reza Shahrki.
Tajlili added that Shahrki’s wife was seriously injured and was taken to hospital.
