Kuwaiti Crown Prince Sheikh Mishaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah issued (Monday) a decree dissolving the National Assembly and entrusting the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and members of the government to implement it.
And the text of Decree No. 62 of 2023 on the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) website stated: After reviewing the constitution, Article 107 thereof, and the Amiri order issued on Rabi’ al-Akhir 10, 1443 AH corresponding to November 15, 2021, with the help of the Crown Prince to exercise some of the Prince’s constitutional powers, In accordance with the Constitution and respect for the popular will, safeguarding the supreme interests of the country, preserving its stability in the midst of international and regional economic changes at the present time, and in order to achieve its aspiration for a better tomorrow that provides its citizens with prosperity and advancement and places it in the ranks of developed nations, it is necessary to refer to the nation, the source of powers, to decide on the selection of its representatives to participate in managing the affairs of the nation. The country in the next stage in a way that helps achieve its desired goals, and based on the presentation of the Prime Minister and his official approval, the National Assembly shall be dissolved, and the Prime Minister and the Ministers – each in his jurisdiction – shall implement this decree and it shall come into force from the date of its issuance and be published in the Official Gazette.
The Kuwaiti Cabinet had submitted, earlier today, a draft decree dissolving the National Assembly to Crown Prince Sheikh Mishaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, after its approval.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, Dr. Khaled Ali Muhammad Al-Fadhel, stated after the weekly meeting held by the government at Bayan Palace headed by the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmed Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah: “Based on the Prime Minister’s proposal and based on the text of Article (107) of the Constitution, The Council of Ministers approved a draft decree dissolving the National Assembly, and submitted it to the Crown Prince.
And the Crown Prince of Kuwait, Sheikh Mishaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, announced last month the dissolution of the 2020 National Assembly, which was restored by the ruling of the Constitutional Court last March, a constitutional solution based on Article 107 of the constitution, as a victory for the popular will, which requires with it the need to return to it in new elections, in a speech she addressed. On behalf of the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, last April 17.
Last March, the Constitutional Court ruled to invalidate the 2022 National Assembly elections, and to restore the elected parliament in 2020.
