The media center of the “Masam” mine clearance project in Yemen issued its monthly report for April 2023, as the total cleared within the framework of its ongoing humanitarian mission during this month amounted to 3,059 mines, unexploded ordnance and explosive devices.
During April 2023, the project managed to remove 2,196 unexploded ordnance and 817 anti-tank mines, while the total area cleared during the same month amounted to 516,000 square meters of Yemeni territory.
The media center indicated that the total that has been cleared since the launch of the “Masam” project at the end of June 2018 until now is 396,081 mines, unexploded ordnance and an explosive device randomly planted by the Houthi militia in various Yemeni governorates, and the total area cleared reached 45,367,536 square meters, since the launch of the project until today. .
During April, the project destroyed 1,185 mines, unexploded ordnance and explosive devices, as part of the project’s relentless endeavor to save the lives of innocent people from deadly explosive canisters.
Events and engagements
On the occasion of the International Day for Mine Risk Awareness, the Masam project to clear the Yemeni lands of mines carried out an awareness campaign about the dangers of mines in the governorates of Ma’rib and Taiz. The campaign included banners containing warning instructions about the danger of mines, not to tamper with them, and the importance of reporting any suspicious objects, in addition to defining the scale of crimes committed by the Houthi militia against civilians.
The campaign comes as part of several awareness activities carried out by the Masam project with the aim of raising community awareness of the danger of mines, and highlighting the humanitarian efforts provided by Masam engineering teams in several Yemeni governorates.
On this occasion, the project also held a group iftar for mine victims in Ma’rib Governorate, in the presence of the Director of the Office of Social Affairs and Labor in the governorate, Abdulaziz Al-Qawsi, and the Director of the Human Rights Office, Abd Rabbo Jadi’, and in the presence of more than 420 employees of “Masam” and the National Program for Mine Action “YAMAC.” Deputy Administrative Director of the Masam Project, greetings from the General Director of the project, Osama Al-Qusaibi, to the mine victims, stressing that honoring the mine victims is an aspect of the humanitarian spirit of the project in Yemen.
The Masam project honored more than 90 injured mine victims, in recognition of the humanitarian situation experienced by mine victims, most of whom suffer from difficult health and living conditions.
On the occasion of the International Day for Mine Awareness, the National Program for Mine Action in Yemen “YAMAC” honored the Masam project in Aden.
The Director of the National Program for Mine Action, Brigadier General Amin Al-Aqili, praised the role of the Masam project and the great efforts made by its teams in the various liberated Yemeni governorates that are contaminated with mines.
He pointed out that the Masam project had the greatest role in clearing large areas of Yemeni lands, stressing that the Houthi coup militia had contaminated large areas that included entire provinces with mines.
