Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov warned that relations between Washington and Moscow are on the brink of sliding into the abyss of armed confrontation, stressing that his country maintains these relations to prevent them from falling into the abyss.
“We are working to maintain relations with the United States in order to avoid falling into the abyss of open armed conflict, as we are standing on the brink of the abyss,” Ryabkov said in a statement reported by the Russian “Channel One” today (Friday). He added, “We are literally ready to use all means available to us in order to ensure that no party is allowed to infringe on the security of the country and the safety of its president and the Russian political leadership.” He pointed out that the channels exist and through which contacts take place, including as necessary at the political level.
On Thursday, Moscow accused Washington of ordering Kiev to launch the supposed attack that targeted the Kremlin with two drones on Wednesday, and its air defenses thwarted it, which entailed an American response that accused the Russian side of “lying.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, during a surprise visit to The Hague, called for the establishment of a special tribunal to try Russia for its invasion of his country. Ukraine accused Russia of orchestrating the operation to justify a possible escalation of the conflict, without providing any evidence in turn.
For his part, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov described efforts by Kiev and Washington to deny any responsibility for the alleged attack as completely “absurd”. And he considered that decisions related to such attacks are not taken in Kiev, but rather in Washington, and that Kiev is only carrying out what is asked of it, according to him.
However, the White House considered Moscow’s accusations of Washington’s involvement in launching attacks with marches on its soil “false”, stressing that Washington was not involved in any way in the attack on the Kremlin.
A spokesman for the National Security Council at the White House, John Kirby, confirmed to the American “MSNBC” channel that his country had nothing to do with this case, considering that Peskov “lies, plain and simple.”
