The Iraqi Ministry of Culture announced the recovery of 6,000 artifacts borrowed by Britain for scientific purposes in 1923.
According to a statement by the ministry on its Facebook account, the receiving process took place “with the direct support of Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’ al-Sudani,” referring to Iraq’s recovery, on Friday, of 6,000 antiquities that had been borrowed by Britain for study purposes since 1923.
The statement added, “The handover of the artifacts took place in the presence of the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, Ahmed Fakak Al-Badrani, the Iraqi Ambassador to London, Jaafar Al-Sadr, the Director-General of British Museums, the Director-General of the Museum of London, and a large number of media professionals, archaeologists and prospectors from Iraq and Britain.”
