King Abdulaziz University has completed a research study in developing a method for evaluating and improving the pedestrian infrastructure in university campus car parks, based on what these parking lots represent as a major structure for the start of the walking journey for the largest number of university students and employees towards their daily destinations of buildings, facilities, colleges and classrooms, which requires the provision of Necessary services for pedestrians to improve the quality of life for their users.
According to the study conducted by Dr. Nawaf Al-Hajjaj, a faculty member in the Environmental Architecture Department at the College of Architecture and Planning at the university; And it was published in the “Sustainability” magazine, which is a scientific journal specialized in sustainability studies and classified within the Web of Science. Infrastructure by pedestrians to see their effectiveness in creating safe, encouraging and comfortable environments for the pedestrian journey that begins after stopping the car and until reaching the desired destinations outside those stops.
The pilgrims explained that the time has come for the design of the large parking lots that occupy large parts of the university campuses to adopt the concepts of humanization of cities, support for improving the urban landscape and quality of life, and contribute to achieving Vision 2030.
