The Arabs are accustomed to long intra-disputes and then the return of warmth to political relations. This happened with many Arab countries, including Syria and Iraq, which remained at enmity for about 20 years, and then the relations returned to normal at the beginning of the year 2000. Today, Syria is experiencing the same thing with the Arab countries. With some formal differences.
With the announcement of the League of Arab States, yesterday (Sunday), the return of Syria to its seat after 12 years of emptiness, we are facing a new Syrian phase this time, but with the taste of security and stability and an attempt to mend the Arab ranks, which is no secret to anyone that it has become weak as a result of the differences and conflicts that affected the security structure of the region .
Political readings of the return of Damascus to its seat differed, but despite all these differences in vision, a kind of relief in the region has come to dominate the Arab atmosphere, as the Arab League folded one of the most complex political files, and gradually began working on a political solution through the joint committee. The problem is from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iraq and Jordan to discuss other files.
Even some Syrian opposition currents welcomed the return of Damascus to the Arab League, considering it the beginning of a political solution and the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution No. 2254, as political forces, including the “National Renewal” movement, announced in a joint statement that the return of Syria to the League is a good step, and an affirmation of The Arab role in resolving the Syrian dilemma, but with the need to talk about Resolution 2254. We welcome the efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the Syrian solution on the basis of a dialogue taking place between the Syrian parties.
Away from all considerations, interpretations and analyses, and after 12 years of the intractable Syrian crisis, an Arab step towards Syria was necessary, after the file was internationalized at all levels, as it became clear that the isolation of Syria did not find any benefit, but rather the Syrian state and the Syrian people remained without a solution. Or any horizon for a solution, and therefore isolation was a negative option that exacerbated the Arab differences with Syria, and the time has come to work directly with the Syrian state and not ignore it in any political process as it is one of the most prominent parties to the crisis.
And at a time when the world is preoccupied with the Russian war in Ukraine and international polarization, especially in Western countries, and the emergence of the Sudanese crisis also on the list of international crises, healing the Syrian wound is the best way instead of letting it bleed, and there will certainly not be a magic solution overnight, but The Arab track on Syria has begun, and we hope that it will not stop until all the outstanding issues included in the statements of the recent Arab meetings are resolved.
