The Kingdom, represented by the National Cybersecurity Authority, implemented a “cybersecurity exercise”, with the participation of 40 countries and international organizations, represented by more than 46 cybersecurity specialists, on the sidelines of the World Summit on the Information Society 2023.
The exercise aims to strengthen international efforts, support joint work in the fields of cybersecurity, and enable its participants to familiarize themselves with the latest methods used in renewed cyberattacks, exchange information and experiences, and develop the skills of cybersecurity specialists in the participating countries, in a way that contributes to achieving global stability and prosperity.
The exercise was carried out in cooperation with the United Nations agency specialized in communications and information technology. It dealt with simulating different types of realistic cyber attacks and incidents, and applying the cyber incident response mechanism. Starting from discovery and analysis, then containment and recovery, post-incident procedures, and lessons learned, which contribute to building specialized capabilities in the areas of cybersecurity for the participants.
The implementation of this exercise comes with a specialized platform that was built, hosted and operated in cooperation with the technical arm of the National Cybersecurity Authority, the Saudi Information Technology Company (SITE), through which cyber exercises are designed and scenarios developed that simulate the latest developments in the methods used in cyber threats and attacks and provide strategies to deal with them.
