The Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to Yemen, Muhammad Saeed Al Jaber, affirmed that all Yemeni parties are serious about ending the fighting and establishing peace, explaining that it is impossible to predict the date of direct talks, let alone the limits of an actual breakthrough, especially since the government and the Houthis currently refuse to sit together.
“Everyone is serious.. in the sense that everyone is looking for peace,” the Saudi ambassador was quoted by Agence France-Presse, adding: “Nothing is clear, but I am optimistic and we hope, God willing, that the Yemenis will find a way out as soon as possible.”
He pointed out that given Saudi Arabia’s relationship with all Yemenis, it has sought to persuade everyone to sit at the table and discuss all issues.
And Al Jaber stressed that the matter is ultimately about the Yemenis, explaining that the two sides at the present time refuse to sit together.
Al Jaber visited Sana’a at the end of last April as part of the Kingdom’s efforts to bring Yemeni views closer, and in support of international efforts to stabilize the armistice, which officially ended last October, after it was renewed more than once.
In the interim capital, Aden, Al Jaber is holding meetings with Yemeni officials to discuss the situation in Yemen, and is conducting trainings to open a number of humanitarian and development projects funded by Saudi Arabia, including hospitals, roads and other projects in various sectors.
