Muharrem Ince, one of the four challengers of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the May 14 presidential elections, announced today (Thursday) his withdrawal from the race.
“I withdraw my candidacy” for the elections, said Ince, who received between 2 and 4 percent of the voting intentions in recent opinion polls, during a press conference.
Three candidates, Erdogan, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, and Sinan Oğan, are currently running in the presidential and parliamentary elections next Sunday.
These elections are the most important in the country’s history, and come more than 3 months after a devastating earthquake struck the south of the country and spread to Syria, leaving thousands dead in both neighboring countries and massive destruction of infrastructure.
