Cautious calm prevails in Gaza, with the ceasefire agreement entering into force between the Palestinian and Israeli sides, after 5 days of the Israeli aggression on the Strip, during which 33 Palestinians were killed and dozens injured, while the occupation authorities announced the death of two Israelis. Spontaneous marches took place in separate areas of the Strip to celebrate the declaration of the truce.
Despite the agreement, Palestinian sources reported that the Israeli occupation army bombed an observatory belonging to the Palestinian resistance east of Gaza City, despite the ceasefire.
The new formula for the ceasefire included provisions that stipulated stopping the targeting of civilians, the demolition of homes, and the targeting of individuals. The agreement stipulated that, “Based on the agreement of the two parties, Egypt will announce a cease-fire between the Palestinian and Israeli sides at exactly ten o’clock on Saturday evening.” He added, “Accordingly, the ceasefire agreement, which includes stopping targeting civilians and demolishing homes, as well as targeting individuals, is being adhered to; This is immediately after the implementation of the cease-fire.
For his part, Daoud Shehab, spokesman for the Islamic Jihad movement, said: “We announce our acceptance of the Egyptian declaration and we abide by it as the occupation committed itself to, adding that the acceptance of the truce came after we obtained a pledge to stop assassinations and stop targeting homes and civilians.”
And the Secretary-General of the Jihad Movement, Ziyad al-Nakhala, stated that the response was with simple capabilities in confronting an enemy armed with tools of destruction. The head of the political department in the Jihad Movement, Muhammad al-Hindi – who led the negotiations on the side of the movement – announced that the movement had informed all the Palestinian factions under the banner of the Joint Operations Room of the details of the ceasefire agreement.
For his part, welcomed a statement by the White House announced the cease-fire in Gaza. He said US officials worked closely with regional partners to reach a ceasefire agreement to prevent further casualties and restore calm. He added that he was grateful for the Egyptian and Qatari diplomatic efforts to reach a cease-fire in Gaza.
