British media revealed today (Sunday) that the runway at Gatwick Airport in London was closed due to an emergency, due to the flight of an unidentified drone within the airspace of the airport.
The British newspaper, The Independent, reported that the authorities had opened an investigation into the incident, confirming that more than 12 flights had been postponed because of this incident.
Reuters quoted a spokesman for the airport as saying that the airport’s operations had been temporarily suspended pending an investigation into the detection of a suspected drone flying near the airport. The investigation ended and the runway was restarted after about an hour.
In turn, Sky News reported that the runway was closed for about an hour and restarted again.
