Hours after the Libyan parliament voted by majority to vote of no confidence in Prime Minister Fathi Bashagha and referred him to investigation, the head of the High Council of State, Khaled al-Mashri, called for an agreement to form a small unified government in order to hold elections.
Today (Tuesday), the President of the High Council of the Libyan State directed sharp criticism of Parliament, stressing that the decision to suspend Bashagha was made in a suspicious manner after it approved that government in a non-transparent manner, accusing the House of Representatives of continuing its political futility.
Al-Mashri called on the deputies to pay attention to the interest of the country and agree with him on a clear road map that leads to elections under a small unified government, whose goal is to hold this election and end the transitional period, stressing the need to stop issuing laws and legislation that are not required by the current stage.
The advisor to the suspended prime minister, Ahmed Al-Ruwaiti, had revealed disagreements over the distribution of public budget funds that stand behind stopping Bashagha’s mandate and delegating his deputy to carry out his duties.
Al-Ruwaiti was quoted by the Arab World News Agency as saying, “Bashagha was subjected to great pressure from various political currents regarding the disbursement of the state’s general budget.”
