Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry heads to Jeddah this evening (Tuesday) to participate in the preparatory meetings of the Council of the League of Arab States at the level of Arab foreign ministers, within the framework of preparations for the meetings of the 32nd regular session of Arab leaders in the Kingdom on Friday.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zaid, confirmed that the meetings of the Council of Arab Foreign Ministers will consider the agenda and draft resolutions presented to the summit, in addition to the participation of Minister Sameh Shoukry in a number of ministerial committees concerned with a number of regional issues, which requires the continuation of the Arab countries. In assuming its leadership role in dealing with it, explaining that the summit is taking place in light of the grave challenges facing the region, and the current tense international situation has exacerbated crises, which requires intervention to achieve security, stability and prosperity for the Arab peoples.
Responsible Egyptian sources said that there are dozens of files that the Arab foreign ministers will submit to the leaders during their meetings tomorrow as an agenda, to be presented to their summit, which is scheduled to start on Friday. At the top of the agenda is welcoming Syria’s return to the Arab League, discussing the Palestinian cause, and the current tension in the Gaza Strip, as well as discussing property demolition, land confiscation, Judaization of Jerusalem, premeditated killing, collective punishment policies, and all violations rejected by international law.
The summit sessions begin with a closed consultative session for an hour and a half for the leaders, during which the summit presidency will be handed over from Algeria to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, followed by a first public working session, during which a speech will be made by the president of the summit and then a speech by the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, after which the Arab leaders will speak according to the priority of the request. A public closing session will take place at the end of the day, during which the “Jeddah Declaration” will be issued, and before that a luncheon will be held for the leaders and guests.
The sources stated that the draft agenda of the summit includes all developments related to the crises that a number of Arab countries are going through, on top of which is the raging Sudanese crisis, and the situation in Yemen and Somalia. The position of president since Michel Aoun left office at the end of last October, and since that date the country has been without a head of state, in light of the political and security challenges afflicting Lebanon.
The agenda of the Arab summit includes strengthening coordination, cooperation between Arab countries to combat terrorism, exchange of information between security services on extremist groups, maintenance of Arab national security, and the need to strengthen Arab cooperation and coordination, to face serious economic and social challenges that affected the region, especially after the Corona crisis and after it. The Russian-Ukrainian crisis, focusing on food security, activating the free trade zone between Arab countries, as well as the energy crisis and climate change.
