Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, member of the Council of Ministers and envoy for climate affairs, Adel Al-Jubeir, affirmed the Republic of Colombia’s support for Saudi Arabia’s candidacy to host Expo 2030.
Al-Jubeir said through his account on the social networking site “Twitter”: “I had a fruitful meeting with my friend, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Colombia, Mr. Alvaro Leiva Duran, during which we discussed bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and ways to enhance them, in addition to the regional and international situations. I thank my friend for the warm reception and his country’s support for the Kingdom’s candidacy to host Expo 2030.
On the other hand, the official website of the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Al-Jubeir’s visit came months after the visit of a Saudi exploratory delegation aimed at identifying the most suitable location for building a headquarters for the Kingdom’s embassy in Bogota. The meeting witnessed an emphasis on the importance of investment in the fields of agriculture, health care and transformation in the energy sector. The website pointed out that the governments of the two countries are working on several memorandums of understanding to enhance cooperation in various aspects, including tourism, culture and energy.
It is worth noting that the activities of the global Expo event are held for months, during which countries of the world compete to display their innovations and industrial, commercial, intellectual and cultural products.
And the Saudi capital, Riyadh, is competing after submitting its nomination file, last September, with three other cities, as the International Bureau of Exhibitions – based in the French capital, Paris, nominated cities in four countries to host the important event, which includes, in addition to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (Riyadh), each of South Korea (Busan), Italy (Rome), and Ukraine (Odessa).
International Expos have been held since 1851, and constitute the largest global platform for building partnerships between different countries of the world, showcasing the latest achievements and technologies, and celebrating the cultural values that unite humanity.
