The Organization of Islamic Cooperation called, in an emergency meeting at the invitation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, held today (Sunday) in Jeddah, to take a unified position and collective measures to prevent the recurrence of incidents of desecration of the Noble Qur’an and insult to the Noble Prophet.
“Unfortunately, on the first day of that auspicious occasion, when all Muslims around the world were celebrating, a despicable act of desecration of the Holy Qur’an was committed outside the Central Mosque in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden,” said the organization’s Secretary-General, Hussein Ibrahim Taha, adding that the meeting He comes to discuss the appropriate response to that action.
He stressed the need to send a clear message that acts of desecration of the Holy Qur’an and abuse of the Holy Prophet Muhammad and Islamic symbols are not just ordinary Islamophobia incidents. He stressed the need to send constant reminders to the international community regarding the urgent application of international law, which clearly prohibits any advocacy of religious hatred.
The agenda focused on discussing measures towards the repercussions of the incident of burning a copy of the Noble Qur’an that took place in front of the central mosque in the Swedish capital, Stockholm, on the first day of Eid al-Adha.
