In what appeared to be confirmation of the continuation of the war between the two sides of the conflict in Sudan, a Sudanese diplomatic official ruled out the possibility of holding a meeting between the army commander, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, and the commander of the Rapid Support Forces, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, anywhere. In a televised statement today (Friday), the official described Kenya’s invitation as chair of the mediation committee as having no value for Sudan, which had expressed its objection to its chairmanship of the mediation. He stressed that there is no contact or communication between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, pointing out that the only means of communication was indirect between them in the Jeddah platform.
Yesterday (Thursday), Al-Burhan renewed his rejection of Kenya’s presidency of the Quartet regarding dealing with the crisis in his country, amid the continuing fighting. At a time when the US State Department reported that there is no political will for the two parties to the conflict in Sudan. The regional spokeswoman for the US State Department, Hala Gharit, said: Diplomacy is the solution in Sudan, not fighting.
