While the Ministry of Health in Khartoum State confirmed today (Saturday) that 22 people were killed and dozens injured in an air strike launched by the army on the city of Omdurman, a delegation from the civil forces in Sudan arrived in Addis Ababa to discuss opportunities for reaching a political settlement that would end the war in the country.
Today, the leader of the Forces for Freedom and Change in Sudan, Khaled Omar Youssef, announced the arrival of a delegation of Sudanese civil forces to the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, as part of several regional visits by the delegation to reach a political settlement that ends the war in the country, confirming in tweets on his Twitter account that the visit It aims to communicate with regional and international actors to accelerate peace efforts in Sudan.
He pointed out that the civil forces will spare no effort to end the war, and this came in conjunction with African movements to hold a direct meeting in Addis Ababa between the head of the Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the commander of the Rapid Support Forces, Muhammad Hamdan Dagalo.
According to sources in the IGAD organization, Al-Burhan still refuses to hold any meeting under the umbrella of the IGAD under Kenya’s presidency of the organization at the present time, amid accusations from Khartoum to Nairobi of not being neutral in this file.
At the same time, US diplomatic sources expected that US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Molly would participate in the meetings of the Quartet of the “IGAD” in Addis Ababa (Monday) related to “Sudan”.
The sources confirmed the participation of the United States, the United Nations, the African Union, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the meetings, indicating that the President of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit, will not participate in the IGAD Quartet Summit.
The Quartet of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development in East Africa (IGAD) includes the foreign ministers of Kenya, Ethiopia, South Sudan and Djibouti. The committee resulted from the OIC summit hosted by Djibouti in June.
