Yesterday (Wednesday), the Shura Council approved, by majority, a recommendation calling on the Ministry of Resources to prepare a general guiding framework; To develop mechanisms for nomination and selection of representatives of members of the boards of directors of government agencies, institutions and companies.
The Resources Committee had adopted the recommendation made by Dr. Faisal Al-Fadhel, Dr. Latifa Al-Shaalan, and Atta Al-Subaiti, to review the mechanism used in nomination and selection to address the negatives, including the weakness in attracting competencies, the predominance of personal criteria in selection, the weakness of women’s empowerment, and the nomination of people to the membership of more than one council. ; What makes it difficult for them to carry out their required duties because they are associated with the membership of multiple and different councils.
In their recommendation, the members stressed the importance of enhancing transparency and governance in nomination and selection for membership of the boards of directors of government agencies, institutions and companies, which necessitates the development of objective criteria in nomination and selection to activate the principle of meritocracy and encourage equal opportunities.
The sponsors of the recommendation relied on the fact that the national policy to encourage equal opportunities and treatment confirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to making equal opportunities and equality a pillar in treatment, employment and occupation.
