In light of the increasing conflict in Sudan, the Minister of Health and Social Welfare of the government of the Darfur region, Babiker Hamdin, warned today (Tuesday) that medicines and medical consumables will run out in the region if aid does not arrive soon.
The “Sons of the Arab World” agency quoted Hamdeen as saying that one of the biggest problems we suffer from in the state of South Darfur is securing medical materials and medicines, so we are working with international organizations and the Sudanese Ministry of Health in order to work on the delivery of medical aid as soon as possible.
He pointed to the arrival of medical and food aid during the past weeks, with the help of the joint force established by the governor of the state, to work to secure the arrival of trucks transporting food and medical aid, indicating that the current health stability is temporary and could collapse at any moment in the event of a deterioration of the security situation or the failure of aid to arrive in a timely manner.
He pointed out that the security conditions greatly affect the movement of doctors and health personnel, which makes health work in the state volatile and subject to considerations of the security situation, pointing out that the cities of the states of the Darfur region are mostly witnessing displacement and flight from areas that are witnessing battles or security instability.
The Doctors Syndicate had confirmed that 70% of the hospitals adjacent to the areas of clashes between the army and the Rapid Support Forces are out of service.
